MELBOURNE, Fla. (November 10, 2018) – Jakobi Bonner poured in a career-high 27 points to lead Rollins in an 86-76 win over Auburn University-Montgomery Saturday night.
The win gives the Tars a sweep of the Florida Tech-hosted South Region Tip-off and 2-0 start to the season. Head coach Tom Klusman notched career win No. 695 on the day.
Bonner was 10-of-14 from the field and 7-of-12 at the stripe, while also grabbing five rebounds and getting four steals. Connor Mckim went 11-of-11 at the free throw line en route to 17 points while Chu Enechionyia added 10 points.
Rollins was out-shot 50 percent to 48 percent and beat on the glass 30-29, but earned the win by forcing 23 AUM (1-1) turnovers and converting those into 27 points.
Darrion Tyalor paced the Warhawks with 19 points while Carlos Bell tallied 15 points and six rebounds. Stanley Davis added 12 points off the bench and Aaron Reddick netted 11.
Rollins came out on fire and raced out to a 28-8 lead over the first nine minutes of the game. AUM slowly chopped away at the Tars advantage and closed to 40-36 with 1:40 left in the half. A pair of Mckim free throws and Daniel Loh dunk at the buzzer put Rollins on top 44-36 at halftime.
The Tars push their lead to 64-49 by the midway point of the second half only to see the Warhawks make it a two-possession game twice coming down the stretch.
Rollins led 67-62 at the 5:51 mark and rolled off a 5-0 run to again lead by double digits a minute later. Auburn Montgomery would get no closer than seven the rest of the way.
