WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 19, 2018) – Rollins offense stayed hot to start the season as 12 different players scored in a 90-70 rout of Southeastern University on Monday.
The Tars (4-0) gave head coach Tom Klusman his 697th career victory and moves him within one win behind Tampa's Richard Schmidt for the most in Sunshine State Conference history.
Connor Mckim led the way for the Tars with 24 points on 8-of-15 shooting to go along with four steals and no turnovers. Jakobi Bonner added 14 points and six rebounds while Hutton Yenor netted 11 off the bench.
Linwood Ross paced the Fire (3-1) who came into the game ranked No. 11 in the NAIA preseason poll. Dylan Causwell added 11 points while Ismael Celestin and Isaiah Moody both scored 10.
The Tars outrebounded their opponent for the fourth-time this season, beating SEU 40-27 on the glass. Rollins shot 49 percent, including 10-of-28 from long range. The Fire hit 51 percent from the field and were just 4-of-20 from distance.
Southeastern jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the Tars offense woke up and built a 23-16 advantage by the midway point of the first. The Rollins advantage was 32-26 with 3:21 to play in the half and swelled to 43-26 by intermission after a 11-0 run to close the frame.
Rollins pushed the lead to as many as 26 with 12:33 left before SEU came back to close to within 14 with 3:07 to go. The Tars then responded with a 6-0 spurt to close the door on the Fire late.
