Rollins Cruises Past Webber International in Season Opener

WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 9, 2018) – Rollins gave head coach Glenn Wilkes, Jr. career win No. 698 with a 79-58 win over Webber International Friday night in the season opener. 

Carly McLendon led the way with 12 points, seven rebounds and seven blocks. Jaylyn Harrison added 12 points and five assists as 12 different players cracked the scoring column for Rollins. 

Freshmen Jasmine Smith and Taniyah Pluvoise both scored eight off the bench for the Tars. 

Rollins shot 44-percent in the game and held the Warriors (2-2) to just 35 percent from the field. The Tars also dominated the glass, outrebounding WIU 56-30, including a 21-8 edge on the offensive end. 

Rollins fought foul trouble to start, but grabbed a 14-11 lead after the first. 

In the second, Rollins pulled away by hitting 12-of-17 from the field and outscoring Webber 27-15 in the frame. The Tars closed the stanza on an 8-0 run and took a 41-26 lead into intermission. Chandler Hall scored all five of her points in the period to lead the way. 

Rollins defense shined in the third, holding Webber to just five field goals while McLendon had four blocks in the quarter. Another 6-0 run to end the quarter put the Tars on top 64-39 heading into the fourth.

The Warriors would get no closer than 18 the rest of the way. 

The Tars are off for a week before heading to Melbourne for the Florida Tech Classic, November 16-17. Rollins matches up with Flagler at noon to start before meeting New York Tech at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
