SAINT LEO, Fla. (April 13, 2018) – Rollins surrendered six runs in the first and was never able to recover, falling to 18th-ranked Saint Leo 8-2 in the first of a three-game Sunshine State Conference series.
Garrett Leonard took the loss, getting chased off in the first after allowing six runs on three hits and four walks. Brian Auerbach tossed a solid four and third, surrendering two runs on four hits while striking out four. Eric Sexton threw a scoreless final three innings with just one hit.
Lane Stancil (2-4, 2 RBI) and Derek Gibree (2-4, 1 RBI) led Saint Leo, who were held to eight hits, but took advantage of seven walks.
Jordan Pendleton got the win for the Lions, fanning nine and scattering five hits with one run in seven innings. Saint Leo improved to 27-8, 10-6 SSC after the big night.
Rollins retired the first batter of the first, before Leonard allowed a single and then three-straight walks to fall into a 2-0 hole. Stancil knocked a two-RBI single and Gibree had an RBI base-hit as Leonard gave way to Auerbauch for the last two batters of the inning.
The Tars got on the board in the third. Teddy Meissner reached on a two-base throwing error and was brought home on a Brundage, RBI double to left.
Leo extended the lead in the fourth with two more bases-loaded walks to take an 8-1 advantage.
Connor Meehan and Nick Breen walked to start the Tars eighth. Meehan eventually scored on a wild pitch two batters later to make the score 8-2.
Weather has altered the original three-games in three-days schedule as they will now play a double-header on Saturday, April 14 at Southard Stadium to close the series.
