BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 2, 2019) – Tied 4-4 heading into the eighth, Lynn exploded for five runs and a Rollins ninth inning comeback came up short as the Tars fell 9-6 Saturday in Sunshine State Conference action.

Rollins (9-5, 1-1 SSC) had four players with two hits each. Jared Herron went 2-4 with three RBIs while Brendan Brundage and Nick Santucci had matching 2-5, two runs scored stat lines. Brundage added an RBI. Isaiah Russell also had a big day at the plate, hitting 2-3 with two runs scored.

Anthony Travato (2-1) took the loss in relief, allowing five runs, four earned, on four hits in an inning and a third. Jimmy Robbins got the start, allowing four runs and six hits over the first six and a third.

Alejandro Martinez and Joe Argumedo both had two hits for Lynn (9-6, 2-3 SSC) with Argumedno also knocking in a pair. Tom Archer had a three-run homer in the decisive eighth, batting 1-2.

Rollins chased Fighting Knights starter Samuel Beck off in the third after four runs on five hits. Kendrick Pico earned the win, surrendering three hits over the middle five and two thirds.

The Tars jumped on their hosts early with Herron knocking Santucci in with two outs in the first. Lynn came back and grabbed a 3-1 lead in their half of the first with a two RBI double from Argumendo and RBI single from Joshua LaPrest.

Brundage scored Russell on an RBI single in the third and Meehan knocked Santucci and Brundage in later in the inning to give the Tars a 4-3 lead.

Rollins remained on top until the disastrous eighth. The Fighting Knights manufactured two runs early in the inning and Archer cleared the baths with a three-run home run to left, putting Lynn ahead 8-4. They later added an insurance run to pushed the score to  heading into the ninth.

Never ones to roll over, Rollins put runners on base and Herron batted in Brundage and Russell to close the gap to 9-6. That would be all the Tars would get as they suffered their first SSC loss of the season.

Rollins and Lynn will play a rubber match on Sunday, March 3 to decide the series. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
