FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (November 11, 2019) – The Tars were eliminated from the Sunshine State Conference Tournament in the quarterfinals, following a 2-1 overtime loss to the Nova Southeastern Sharks. Rollins 2019 ends with a record of 5-8-2 overall. Nova Southeastern advanced to the semifinals with a record of 9-5-3.
Matty Cornish led the Sharks, assisting on the first goal and scoring the winner. Sebastian Loibl tallied the remaining Nova Southeastern goal.
Maximillian Obermeier made five saves, playing all 102 minutes in net for Rollins. Titouan Le Roux made one save and gave up one goal, playing the full contest for the Sharks.
Rollins got on the board early. Christian Adams drew a foul outside the box. Centeno stepped up and put a dipping ball around the Nova Southeastern wall and into the net, past a frozen Le Roux. The rest of the half was played evenly, with Obermeier keeping the Sharks off the board with four saves.
Nova Southeastern picked up the pressure in the second 45 minutes, but the Rollins defense kept them at bay until late in the period. Cornish eventual got off a good cross, in the 84th minute, which found the head of the Sharks leading scorer, Loibl. Neither team could clinch in regulation as the game went to the extra period tied 1-1.
Both teams had chances in the first extra period, but could not convert. The Shark would score early in the second 10 minute period when Cornish fired a low shot beyond the reach of Obermeier, ending the Tars campaign.
