CLEARWATER, Fla. (February 22, 2018) – Rollins freshman Alex Norcini had a hand in a pair of sixth place finishes Thursday as Rollins opened competition at the 2018 Sunshine State Conference Championship. The Tars are hosts of the event at The Long Center in Clearwater.
Rollins totaled 45 points on day one and are sixth in the team standings. Nova Southeastern leads the way with 195 points, followed by Florida Southern (183) and Florida Tech (123). The opening night finals proved to be one of the fastest in SSC history with six meet and two conference records being broken.
Norcini was the Tars' top individual swimmer on the day, earning a spot in the 200-yard IM A final and coming out with a sixth-place finish. He stopped the clock in a school-record time of 1:50.69, two seconds better than his mark set earlier in the season.
The day closed with Rollins 200-yard Medley Relay also setting a program best. The quartet of Norcini, Dan Sulkowski, Chase Benton and Paul Tobin went 1:31.98, breaking the school record and finishing sixth.
