GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 15, 2018) – Swimming his second of four events at the NCAA Division II National Championship, Alex Norcini was in the mix of the 400 IM but just missed out on a spot in Thursday night's final.
The freshman posted a time of 3:57.99 in the prelims, the 18th best mark of the session, a second out of a spot in the B final.
"Alex showed great poise while competing in a very fast field," said Tars head coach Kyle Berg. "He built on his performance in the 200 IM yesterday and I think he's going to have two great performances in the 500 freestyle and 1650 freestyle."
"I've been feeling better and swimming faster each day," added Norcini. "I'm optimistic for my 500 tomorrow."
Sunshine State Conference rival Matthew Holmes of Florida Southern won the 400 IM in 3:47.18.
Norcini's NCAA Championship continues Friday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center, swimming the 500 freestyle. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. with the women's 500 and will be followed by the men's where Norcini is seeded 25th with a time of 4:29.85. Fans can watch live at WingateBulldogs.com.
