WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 4, 2019) – Sophomore Christian Huber was an event winner and freshman Connor Xu posted a pair of runners-up to highlight Rollins season opener with Nova Southeastern.
The Tars fell to the Sharks 148-57 in the team scoring.
"I am thrilled with how the team performed in our season opener against NSU," said interim head coach Julianne Lehner. "They seized the opportunity to race the defending conference champions, and one of the strongest programs in the nation. Our energy was contagious and our positive outlook resulted in many phenomenal swims. I am extremely proud of the hard work we have been putting in, and feel this is a taste of all the success this team is going to have this season."
Huber won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.14 and was second in the 100-yard freestyle in 47.29. His mark in the 100 was just 0.29 seconds away from the win. The sophomore also teamed with Alex Norcini, Asa Marvel and Xu to finish second in the 200-yard medley in 1:36.03.
Xu was runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:45.04 and second in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:08.36.
Marvel added a second place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (1:55.92). Andrew Relihan was third in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.80.
The Tars 200-yard freestyle relay team of Cruse Sweeny, Brady Spear, Dan Sulkowski and Relihan finished second in 1:27.38.
The Tars are back in action Friday, October 18 traveling to Lakeland to face Florida Southern. Competition is set for 3 p.m.
