CLEARWATER, Fla. (February 14, 2020) – Chase Benton had a hand two school records Friday as Rollins racked up big points and sits fifth after day two of the Sunshine State Conference Championship.
The Tars have 156 points at the midway point of the event and put some distance between themselves and both Florida Tech and Lynn. Tampa leads the way with 481 points while Nova Southeastern is second with 432.
Benton set a new school record in the 100-yard butterfly in the prelims, stopping the clock at 49.57. The mark was .24 seconds faster than his record-breaking performance at the SSC Championships a year ago. In the evening session, he posted a time of 49.71 to finish 12th. Dan Sulkowski was 13th in the race with a time of 49.74 and Asa Marvel took 15th in 51.27.
The Tars 400-yard medley relay team of Benton, Alex Norcini, Connor Xu and Christian Huber finished sixth in a new school record time of 3:21.20, more than a second faster than the program's best time set a year ago.
Norcini picked up a seventh place finish in the 400-yard IM in 3:56.05. Marvel was 16th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.15.
The SSC Championship continues through Sunday at the Long Center in Clearwater, Florida.
