Tars Come Up Short in Duel with Paladins

No. 14 Rollins – 3

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 4, 2018) – Rollins fell to Division I Furman in a hard fought match, Friday afternoon.  The No. 14 Tars fall to 2-5 in 2018, with two losses coming against Division I competition.  Furman improves to 10-4 on the year, as they pass the midpoint of their Florida swing. 

The Paladins controlled doubles play, taking to of the three matches to earn the double point.  Sami Kirberg and Luke Horan battled in the second position, falling 6-4 in the match that clinched the point for Furman.  Frederick Danielson and Guilherme Dumit were down only 5-4 in the third match, however that went unfinished. 

The Paladins would continue to roll into singles play, taking the first three matches to clinch the team victory.  However, Rollins would battle individually, capturing a trio of impressive singles wins.  Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz would recover from a first set defeat on the third court to win in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 10-8.  Nicolo De Fraia would remain perfect in singles play on the year, earning a straight set victory over the No. 110 singles player in Division I Cameron Green, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2.  Ziad Melhaoui would earn his second singles win of the season, and the Tars' third point of the match, in a three set marathon, 5-7, 6-3, 11-9.

Rollins will continue with their nonconference homestand, playing host to Concordia (N.Y.) on Tuesday, March 6, at 3 p.m.
