Tars Continue to Rank With Nation's Elite

TEMPE, Ariz. (May 1, 2019) – The Tars, coming off a third place performance in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament, held at No. 10 in the ITA National Rankings.  Nicolo De Fraia remained at No. 13 in the National Singles Poll, while Ziad Melhaoui and Andrea Brignacca settle at No. 21 in the ITA Doubles Ranks.  The pair of Melhaoui and Gai Feigin reenter the national conversation at No. 47.

The Tars moved to 18-6 overall with their conference postseason showing.  Rollins defeated Embry-Riddle before falling to No. 2 Barry in the semifinals.  The Tars then avenged one of their conference losses of the regular season, upsetting then No. 9 Saint Leo in the third place match.

De Fraia improved to 20-1 in his senior campaign with one win during the SSC Tournament.  Seeing only first position action, he is 4-1 against fellow nationally ranked players.  In the tournament he defeated No. 49 Andres Donayre, while matches against No. 7 Pierre Montrieul and No. 12 Bruno Faletto were tight, but went unfinished.

Melhaoui and Brignacca are 5-3 on the year, playing in the first doubles spot for Rollins.  The pair have defeated three nationally ranked teams.

Melhaoui and Feigin have also seen first position action for Rollins, and make their return to the ITA Polls at 6-3 overall, and 2-1 against SSC opposition.

Barry leads the SSC at No. 2 in the poll, while No. 9 Lynn and No. 10 Rollins also feature in the top-10.  After losing to the Tars in the conference third place match, Saint Leo falls just behind Rollins at No. 11.  Palm Beach Atlantic jumps up one spot to No. 24, while the Tars' first round victim, Embry-Riddle, falls four places to No. 35.  Florida Southern rounds out the conference contingent at No. 48.

The Tars are now awaiting their NCAA Tournament fate.  The NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Selection Show is scheduled for Tuesday, May 7 at 8:30 p.m.
