De Fraia Headlines Rollins All-SSC Contingent

MELBOURNE, Fla. (May 8, 2019) – Nicolo De Fraia took home the Sunshine State Conference's top men's tennis honor to headline a group of four players who earned All-SSC recognition.  De Fraia, a senior, was named the SSC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Year.

De Fraia was an All-SSC First Team Singles honoree as well.  Guillermo De Nicolas Ruiz and Atakan Gezer each took spots on the All-SSC Singles Second Team.  De Fraia and Frederick Danielson were named All-SSC Second Team Doubles.

In singles play De Fraia earned a 20-1 mark this season, including a 7-1 record in SSC play.  A team captain, he has played exclusively in the first position, and is currently ranked No. 13 in the nation by the ITA.  The Cagliari, Italy native has defeated six regionally ranked opponents and four nationally ranked foes.  He was named SSC Player of the Week once this season.

Nicolas-Ruiz, a 2018 All-SSC Honorable Mention recipient, saw most of the second position action for Rollins on his way to a 16-4 overall record, and a 5-2 SSC mark.  He makes the jump to the Second Team after defeating two regionally ranked opponents, and the only nationally ranked player he faced this season, then No. 7 Arthur Figuiere of Bluefield State.  He was named SSC Player of the Week once during the campaign.

Atakan Gezer was a force on the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth courts for Rollins this season.  The Istanbul, Turkey native collects his first All-SSC honor coming off a 19-2 season, in which he went 2-0 in the third spot, 7-1 in the fourth, 8-1 in the fifth, and 2-0 in the sixth.  The sophomore upset one regionally ranked opponent in 2019.

De Fraia and Danielson saw almost all of the second position doubles action for the Tars this season.  The duo earned a 15-7 overall mark, and a 4-4 SSC record.  The two defeated one regionally ranked foe, and sealed the vital doubles point in Rollins' SSC Tournament Third-Place Match win over Saint Leo.

The Tars advanced to the NCAA South Region Tournament as the sixth-seed, and will travel to Valdosta State to take on West Florida in opening round action.  First serve is set for Saturday, May 11, at 2 p.m.
