ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (February 4, 2020) - The Rollins Tars had a rough start to their 2020 season, falling to the #7 Flagler Saints by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday.
Flagler took home two of the three doubles matches. In flight one, Andre Brignacca and Atakan Gezer fell to the Carvalho brothers by a score of 6-3. The second flight saw Luke Horan and Gai Feigin drop the match to Luca Bolla and Jiri Jenicek by the same score. The Tars avoided the doubles sweep by winning flight three. Mikkel Baumann and Freddy Danielson battled Rasmus Johnson and Cedric Holzmann to a tough 7-6 (7-4) victory.
Luke Horan had the tough task of matching up with #47 Luca Bolla in pairing one. Bolla was able to sweep in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Gai Feigin also had a tough matchup in flight two against Rodrigo Carvalho. After Carvalho took the first set 6-1, the second set was much more evenly matched. Feigin forced extra points, but eventualy fell 7-6 (7-3).
It was another nailbiter in flight three as Mikkel Baumann faced Jenicek. Baumann took the first set 6-4, the first set official set of his collegiate career. Jenicek was able to battle back, taking both the second and third sets by a score of 6-4.
The Tars got on the board thanks to Gezer in flight four. The junior gritted through a tough test in set one, taking it by a score of 7-6 (7-5). He then swept the match with a 6-4 victory in set two.
Flight five saw Freddy Danielson drop straight sets to Felipe Carvalho 7-5, 6-3. Brignacca was able to salvage another point for the Tars by winning the sixth flight of Holzmann in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.
Up next for the Tars is a home match against Florida National on Tuesday, February 11th. First serve is scheduled for 3 pm at the Tiedtke Courts on campus.
