Florida National already has four matches under their belt for the 2020 season as they sport a 3-1 record. The Fighting Knights of Lynn University will visit as the #11 team in the country. They won their first match of 2020 7-0 against St. Thomas University. The Knights are coming off a national championship runner-up season in 2019.
Scouting the Tars:
Rollins fought hard in their match against Flagler, but didn't have enough in the tank to overcome the Saints. Still, it was a tough test for the first match of the seaosn, and Rollins will look to build off of the positives. Gai Feigin played from the second flight last week, and performed well depsite the loss. He and Gezer were responsible for 31 individual wins last year, and the Tars will need both players to step up this year. Brignacca looked good in the sixth flight with his win last Tuesday. The sophomore put up a 15-4 record from the same position last year. Freshman Mikkel Baumann also looked sharp in his first collegiate match.
Scouting the Conquistadors:
Florida National is 3-1 in the young season, with wins over NAIA foes Southeastern (6-1), Ave Maria (4-1), and Warner (4-0). Their only loss was to D-1 Stetson by a score of 7-0. Vadim Rebaud is sporting a 3-1 record with the majority of his matches coming from flight three. Justo Villanueva has also played well for the Conquistadors this year, with two wins. The FNU roster is composed of four freshman, three sophomores, and three juniors.
Scouting the Fighting Knights
Lynn made quick work of St. Thomas last week, sweeping every match for the 7-0 victory. Lynn checks in at #11 in the national poll, and #4 in the ITA South Region poll. Their ace is Lucca Baptista who is ranked as the #17 singles player in DII. Baptista went 15-4 from the second position last year, and will look to take Lynn to the championship for the second time in as many years. Robin Calais is another to keep an eye on; the senior won his flight one match last week in straight sets after winning 15 matches last season.
Rollins will hit the road for a mid-week matchup with conference opponent Embry-Riddle on Wednesday, February 19 before heading to Valdosta, Georgia for matches against West Florida and Valdosta State on the weekend.
