WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 11, 2020) - The Rollins Men's tennis team picked up their first victory of the year with a convincing 5-2 win over the visiting Florida National Conquistadors on Tuesday at the Bert Martin Tennis Complex on campus.
Rollins earned the first point of the day by taking the doubles matches. In flight one, Andrea Brignacca and Atakan Gezer made quick work of Jules Grignon and Edgar Fougerit, winning the match 6-1. In flight three, Freddy Danielson and Mikkel Baumann also claimed victory with a 6-3 win over Umberto Particelli and Jerry Makela. Flight two was also headed Rollins' way as Luke Horan and Gai Feigin had a 5-2 advantage in their match, but with the point already clinched, they moved to unfinished.
Brignacca was the first Tar to finish his singles match with a strong 6-3, 6-0 sweep of Vadim Rebaud. Leo Cordero then followed suit with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Grignon. The freshman Baumann was up next with his first career singles win, 6-3, 6-3, over Geronimo Vivero to give Rollins a 4-0 advantage. Freddy Danielson then clinched the day with a hard-fought 6-2, 7-5 win against Particelli. The Conquistadors made the score respectable with wins in flights one and three, but it was too little, too late as the Tars earned their first win of the 2020 spring.
Up next for Rollins is a tough test in their Sunshine State Conference opener against Lynn University on Sunday morning. The Tars will host the Fighting Knights with first serve scheduled for 11 am.
