Tars Upset Bid Comes Up Short Against Fighting Knights

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 16, 2020) - The Rollins Tars fought hard on Sunday morning, taking the #11 Lynn Fighting Knights to the full seven matches. However, the upset bid fell short with Lynn taking the win by a score of 4-3. 

The day started on a high note for the Tars as they captured two out of three doubles matches. In flight three, Freddy Danielson and Mikkel Baumann made quick work of Robin Calais and Nicolas Cabrera, winning 6-1.  The doubles point was secured in flight two when Atakan Gezer and Andrea Brignacca scored an impressive victory over Lucca Baptista and Diego Gonzalez. In flight one, Luke Horan and Gai Geigin took William Ljungstrom and Giovanni Arajuo to the limit before falling by a score of 7-6.

Flight five was the first to finish and saw Gonzalez defeat Danielson by a score of 6-4, 6-2. The Fightning Knights scored their second point of the day in flight one when #17/4 Lucca Baptista won a hard-fought battle against Luke Horan. Atakan Gezer tied things up with his 6-3, 6-2 win against Rayane Alami at the end of flight three. Lynn was able to lock up the win during the next two matches. In the sixth draw, Lucas Flotta defeated Moritz Stenzer in a close one, 6-3, 7-5. In flight two, Calais took down Baumann with a 6-4, 6-4 win. The remaining game in the fourth draw had already entered the third set, and saw Andrea Brignacca come back to win against Giovanni Arajuo 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.

With the loss, Rollins falls to 1-2 on the young season. They will have three chances to right the ship in the upcoming week. The Tars will travel to Daytona for a SSC matchup against Embry-Riddle on Wednesday February 19, and then head to Valdosta, Georgia to faceoff against West Florida and Valdosta State on Friday and Saturday.
