VALDOSTA, Ga. (February 21, 2020) - Rollins could not come through with an upset bid, falling to the #3 West Florida Argonauts on the campus of Valdosta State in Georgia by a score of 6-1 on Friday afternoon.
Rollins got off to a great start when Mikkel Baumann and Freddy Danielson took home a convincing 6-2 doubles victory against Salvador Bandeira and Juan Cabrera in flight three. However, West Florida secured the doubles point by winning the next two matches. Nicolas Lecoutre and Gabriel Nery defeated Atakan Gezer and Andrea Brignacca 6-2 in flight two while Luke Horan and Gai Feigin fell to Serdar Bojadjiev and Adam Svensson, 6-4.
Rollins then went 1-5 in singles matches, with Andrea Brignacca claiming the point for the Tars in flight five. The sophomore fought hard for three sets, plus extra points, before securing the win 6-1, 6-7, 11-9 over Juan Cabrera. Luke Horan played well out of flight two, taking Nicolas Lecoutre to three sets 2-6, 6-3, 3-6. Quinn McLeod made his 2020 debut out of flight six, falling 6-0, 6-4 against Pedro Cordeiro.
The Tars are in the midst of a brutal stretch on their schedule that will see them play four straight ranked teams, including two in the top 15. Rollins has faced #11 Lynn, #25 Embry-Riddle, and #3 West Florida in the past seven days, and will see #19 Valdosta State on their home court tomorrow morning. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
