WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 10, 2020) – Rollins sailing split the squad over the weekend, sending a crew to Galveston for the Harris Kempner Memorial while the majority of the team stayed home to host the Old Florida on Lake Virginia.
In Texas, the Tars joined 12 other schools and competed in 12 races with Rollins finishing fourth. In the A division, Nick Baker and Simon Munoz teamed to average a fifth place finish. They were up and down at the beginning and closed strong, taking third in the last race of the day.
Rollins dominated the B division, winning three races and taking first overall. Nate Barrett and Nicolas Ladino finished no worse than fourth in any of the races and beat second place Texas A&M Galveston by six points.
Back at home, the Tars hosted four races among 10 teams and posted a team victory. Rollins beat Florida by five points and third place Palm Beach Atlantic by 23.
Teagan Walsh was the skipper for all A division races with Tiffany Smeal and Herminio Agront splitting crew duties. The Tars finished second in the first two races, third in the third and fourth in the fourth. Carly Orhan and Sutton MacInnes tied with Florida for first in the B division, but moved to second on the fourth-race tiebreaker. The Tars won the first and third races and were runner-up to the Gators in the other two.
Rollins is back in action Feb. 15-16 at the SAISA Open in St. Petersburg.
