Tars Qualify for National Championship

GREENWOOD, S.C. (September 230, 2019) – The Rollins waterski team secured their 14th consecutive trip to the NCWSA National Championships with a third place finish at the Southern and Atlantic Coastal Regional Championships.

Both the Tars' men's and women's team finished third at the event, leading to the combined bronze performance.  Alabama took first, while Florida Southern finished second.  The Tars edged out hosts Clemson for third, while Auburn rounded out the top-five.

The Tars men finished fourth in the slalom event, third in tricks, and fourth in jumps, on their way to the third place result.  Alabama finished first in tricks and jumps to earn the gold, while Florida Southern won tricks on their way to a second place result. 

Joaquin Angulo led the way for Rollins in the slalom with a seventh place finish.  Collin Diviak placed third to lead the Tars in the trick portion of the competition, while Diego Font picked up a sixth place finish.  Nathan Cherry sailed 37.40 meters to leads Rollins, and earn ninth in the jumps event. 

Cherry led the way for Rollins in the Overall Competition, finishing fifth.  Diviak tallied an eighth place result. 

The Rollins women picked up two third place results, in tricks and jumps, while taking fourth in slalom, on their way to a third place finish.  Again, Alabama and Florida Southern occupied the top two positions.  While the Tars finished ahead of Clemson and Auburn. 

Charlsey Newman paced the Tars with a 12th place finish in the slalom, just ahead of teammate Emma Morgan in 13thMia Morgan earned a sixth place result in tricks to lead Rollins, while Emma Morgan and Newman tied for 11th.  Newman again led the Tars in jumps, tallying a sixth place result, while Emma Morgan earned the seventh spot. 

Newman finished the Overall Competition as the fifth ranked skier in the competition.  Emma Morgan finished in sixth, while Camille Diviak tied for 10th.  Dar Bejerno rounded out the Rollins presence with a 14th place result. 

Up Next:
With their third place finish the Tars qualified for their 14th straight NCWSA Collegiate National Championship.  The event will take place on October 10 through October 12 in Rio Linda, California.
