WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 5, 2018) – Rollins bounced back from their first Sunshine State Conference loss in a big way on Saturday, beating Barry 74-60 at Warden Arena.
The Tars (8-4, 5-1 SSC) outscored the Buccaneers (4-9, 2-4 SSC) every quarter and used a big third to pull away for the win.
Nichel Tampa was the top scorer for Barry, netting 16 on the night. Ida Andersson and Harriet Swindells both scored 13.
Rollins had twice as many field goals as Barry in the first quarter, but the Bucs stayed close with a trio of three-pointers as the Tars took an 18-14 lead after one.
In the second, both teams struggled from the field, but Rollins was able to extend its lead to 30-24 by halftime.
The teams traded baskets to start the third quarter before Rollins ended the frame on a 10-2 run and posted a 55-43 advantage heading into the fourth.
The Tars led by as many as 18 by the midway point of the fourth and took advantage of Barry's misses at the free throw line to cruise to a 14-point lead.
Rollins held Barry to 36 percent shooting while hitting 44 percent of their shots. The Tars also dominated the glass 49-33 with both teams committing nine turnovers.
The Tars keep pace in the SSC standings with the win, just one game back of leader Florida Southern and two games against the Mocs still on the schedule.
