Rollins Drops Road Game at Eckerd to Cap Regular Season

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (February 29, 2020) – Rollins matched Eckerd in every quarter but the third, which proved to be the difference as the Tars fell to the Tritons 77-66.

The result closes the regular season for Rollins at 15-13 overall and 8-12 in Sunshine State Conference play. A Lynn loss to Tampa earlier in the day ensured the Tars a spot in the SSC Tournament. Final seeds will be released later Saturday night. Eckerd finished runner-up in the league at 17-3 and 21-5 overall.

Rachel Lia had a second-straight monster offensive night, posting 18 points to go along with three rebounds and three assists. Denise Daniels netted 15 and got five rebounds while Jaylyn Harrison tallied 12 points.

The Tars shot 49 percent to EC's 46 percent, but were outrebounded 33-30.

Octavia Loll led the Tritons with 24 points and seven rebounds. Zoe Richards added 14 while Eneritz Larranaga tallied 12 points and eight rebounds.

The game got off to a blistering start for both teams with both scoring 22 in the first quarter. Neither team led by more than three in the frame that saw three ties and two lead changes.

EC jumped out in front 30-26 halfway through the second, but Rollins ran off an 8-0 run and grabbed a 34-30 lead with 1:23 to play in the half. The Tritons scored the last four points of the stanza and the game headed into intermission deadlocked at 34.

It was more of the same to start the third with the game tied at 39 after a Rachel Jablonski three-pointer at the 5:31 mark. EC then went on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes and put Rollins down 49-39. Harrison drained a deep three to get the Tars back on track, but the Tritons offense stayed hot and Rollins trailed 59-48 heading into the fourth.

Rollins trailed by as many 18 with 5:46 to play. Lia sparked an 8-2 run but the Tars would get no closer than nine in the final seconds.

Pairings for the 2020 Jimmy John's Sunshine State Conference Tournament will be released the evening of Saturday, February 29. Fans can follow the Tars post season run live on the Tars Sports Network at and locally on 91.5 FM WPRK.
