Tars Post Strong Opening at Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel

CHAPEL, HILL, N.C. (October 13, 2017) – Rollins matched its best round of the season and is firmly in the mix to open the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational on Friday.

The Tars shot an eight-over 296 and finds themselves in the middle of the leaderboard of the primarily Division I tournament.

Duke leads the field with a five-under 283, one stroke better than South Carolina (284) and three clear of North Carolina State (286). Arkansas and Louisville are tied for fifth at even par.

Rollins is four back of ninth place Ohio State and six shots behind eighth place Louisville. Michigan State trails the Tars by a stroke while Vanderbilt and Virginia are tied for 12th two shots behind Rollins.

Senior Madison Lellyo and sophomore Seher Atwal both shot even par and are tied for 24th to lead the Tars. Lellyo birdied the par-three fifth and hit the turn at one-under. She bogeyed No. 11, but got it back with another birdie-two on No. 12. After a bogey on 17 she closed out her round at even.

Atwal continued her hot start to the season, posting two birdies and a bogey to hit the turn at one-under. After a bogy on No. 11, she finished with a string of seven pars for her 72.

Lexie Toth and Sophie Faulkner posted matching four-over par scores of 76 to sit tied for 64th. Toth only had four bogeys to go along with 14 pars. Faulkner posted three red numbers on the day, including back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18. Selin Timur is tied for 86th after an eight-over 80.
