CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (October 13, 2019) – Seher Atwal led the way for Rollins as the Tars took 18th place at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational on Sunday.
The only Division II team in a field that featured some of the top-ranked D1 programs in the country, the Tars posted scores of 302-306-318 to finish 62-over par.
Michigan State captured the team title with a 12-under par 852 while Alabama was a stroke back (-11). Ohio State and Duke both shot nine-under to tie for third.
"It's always an honor to be invited to play in this event, and we are grateful to Coach Jan Mann and Mike O'Donnell for extending the opportunity for us to compete here," said Rollins Head Coach Julie Garner. "The staff and volunteers and the filet sliders are salve to the self-inflicted wounds we sustained on the course through taking big numbers and missing opportunities to help ourselves."
Atwal posted a four-over 76 on Sunday to finish tied for 46th at five-over (72-73-76) for the event. The senior started her day with a birdie and was able to post one more red number later in the round.
Jennifer Jung finished 87th at 17-over for the tournament, shooting scores of 77-76-80. Selin Timur posted a 90th place finish, shooting scores of 79-77-80. YeonJoo Kim and Lara van Staden were both 24-over and tied for 93rd. Kim turned in rounds of 76-82-82 while van Staden shot 77-80-83.
"We learned a lot about what it takes to persevere and to play at a higher level, and we look forward to finishing our fall season hosting our event at Country Club of Orlando," added Garner.
The Rollins Legends Invitational is slated for October 28-29 at the Country Club of Orlando and will again feature one of the toughest fields in Division II.
Rollins sent a B team to the Saint Leo Invitational with that squad teeing off Monday, Oct. 14. Fans can follow the action with live scoring at GolfStat.com.
