SPARKS, Md. (December 26, 2019) - The Tars women's lacrosse team has been selected the No. 8 team in the country in the Nike/US Lacrosse Preseason Poll.See the full poll here.
Last year the Tars finished 15-3 overall, and 5-1 in the Sunshine State Conference. Rollins earned a share of the SSC Regular Season Championship, the first regular season title for the Tars. The Tars defeated SSC rival Florida Southern in the opening round of NCAA play, before the season came to an end against Queens (N.C.) in the quarterfinal round. The Tars lose All-American performers Kallie German and Lindsay Van Beck, but return All-American Lily Rizk and All-Region honoree Hannah Ashton.
The Tars non-conference schedule is highlighted by a visit from No. 1 Adlephi. Rollins faces No. 17 Saint Leo twice this season, once outside of SSC play and once as part of conference play. Tampa leads the way among the SSC contingency, coming in at No. 6 in preseason rank. Florida Southern starts the year one spot behind the Tars, at No. 9.
Adelphi, the reigning NCAA Champions, occupy the top-spot in the preseason poll. The national runners-up, West Chester, sit at No. 2. The LeMoyne Dolphins starts the year at No. 3. Queens (N.C.), the team that eliminated Rollins from NCAA play, and a national semifinalist in 2019, take the No. 4 spot. Regis, a 2019 NCAA Tournament top-seed, rounds out the top-five.
The Tars travel to Montevallo, Alabama to start their 2020 campaign.
