BALTIMORE, Md. (January 6, 2020) – The Tars enter the 2020 campaign ranked as the No. 6 team in the country according to Inside Lacrosse.
Last year the Tars finished 15-3 overall, and 5-1 in the Sunshine State Conference. Rollins earned a share of the SSC Regular Season Championship, the first regular season title for the Tars. The Tars defeated SSC rival Florida Southern in the opening round of NCAA play, before the season came to an end against Queens (N.C.) in the quarterfinal round. The Tars lose All-American performers Kallie German and Lindsay Van Beck, but return All-American Lily Rizk and All-Region honoree Hannah Ashton.
Adelphi, the reigning NCAA Champions, occupy the top-spot in the preseason poll. Rollins opens their home slate against the Panthers on February 23. The national runners-up, West Chester, sit at No. 2. Regis, a NCAA Tournament top-seed from a year ago occupies the third spot. The LeMoyne Dolphins starts the year at No. 4. Queens (N.C.), the team that eliminated Rollins from NCAA play, and a national semifinalist in 2019, round out the top five.
The Tars lead the SSC contingent in the rankings, as the conference put three teams in the top-10. Rollins sits at No. 6, while Tampa in one spot behind them at No. 7, and Florida Southern enter the year at No. 8. The Tars face the pair in back-to-back contest; traveling to Tampa on April 4, then hosting the Mocs on April 8.
The Tars travel to Montevallo, Alabama to start their 2020 campaign. Rollins and the Falcons will face off on Friday, January 31, at 4 p.m.
