Tars Host Metro Cup in Spring Season Opener

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 6, 2020) – Rollins men's and women's rowing is set to start the 2020 Spring Season on Saturday, March 7 with the Metro Cup on Lake Maitland. 

The Tars women will be joined by UCF, Villanova and Duquesne while the men will go head-to-head against Central Florida Rowing. Local high schools, headlined by Winter Park High School and Edgewater High School, will also be in action on Lake Maitland. 

Racing is set to begin at 8 a.m. Parking is available at Lakemont Elementary with shuttled running from 6:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Park Avenue and surrounding streets in downtown Winter Park are closed for a road race. 

The Tars are coming off an exciting 2019 season. The men's squad brought home medals in all boats at the John Hunter Regatta and the pair of Connor Stolp and Cameron Boyd teamed to win the 2- race at SIRA. The Novice 4 capped the season with a sixth place finish in the Lindy Cup at the Dad Vail Regatta. 

The women's team is tasked with replacing graduated second-team All-America honoree Elizabeth Berry. She was named the Sunshine State Conference Scholar Female Athlete of the Year and led Rollins to a fifth place finish at the SSC Championship. She landed on the first team All-SSC while Alyssa Murphy earned a spot on the All-Freshman/Novice team. At Dad Vail's, the Varsity 4 took fifth in the Division II Grand Final and Novice 4 finished third in the Petite Final.
