Tars Unable to Overcome Mavericks

Rollins (1-3-0) – 1
Colorado Mesa (3-2-0) – 2

Lakewood, Colo. (September 14, 2017) – Looking to bounce back after a tight midweek defeat against Colorado Christian, the Tars would then lace-up to take on the Colorado Mesa Mavericks. It was the Tars who would strike first on the scoreboard in the 17th minute, but they would end up dropping the match to the Mavericks, 2-1.

First Half:
The Tars came out looking to establish themselves offensively against the Mavericks. The scoring would finally open up for Rollins on one of five first half corners, when freshman Karina Santin was able to finish inside the box just before the 17th minute. Junior Kiera McMeekan was credited with the assist, the first of her career. The Tars would hold onto the lead for the majority of the half, before a deflected Mavericks shot would find its way into the back of their net and tie the game at one goal apiece going into the half.

Second Half: Rollins was under constant pressure in the second half as the Mavericks really pushed to find the go-ahead goal. However, sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Rowswell was up for the task. The Windemere Fla. Native would rack up 10 saves on the afternoon, while the Mavericks totaled 12 shots on target. Finally, the Mavericks would find the go-ahead goal in the 87th minute when Haley Glassy was able to find the back of the net. This left almost no time for the Tars to find a tying goal, and they would fall to the Mavericks, 2-1.
