Tars Come Up Short Against Tritons

Rollins (3-6-2) (2-3-2)– 0

Eckerd (4-5-0) (3-3-0) – 1

WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 11, 2017) – Despite outshooting the Eckerd College Tritons 20-5 on the night, the Tars just could not find the final pass to equalize, and fell 1-0 to the Tritons. Rollins now sits at 3-6-2 on the year, and 2-3-2 in the SSC, while Eckerd improves to 4-5 overall, and 3-3 in conference play.

First Half: The Tars looked like the threatning side for almost the whole half, ripping nine shots at the net, and forcing Eckerd goalkeeper Casey Winn into four first half saves. The Tritons would get a break and finally open up the scoring in the 33rd minute, when Kayla Gray fired a shot into the left corner past Kelly Rowswell. This would be the only shot on target for the Tritons the entire game. Heading into the half, Rollins found themselves in a 1-0 hole after dominating much of the match.

Second Half: The Tars came out of the locker room looking determined to get the early equalizer. Rollins would tally 11 shots in the half, and force Winn into six second half saves. The best chance for the Tars came in the 56th minute, off a corner kick that found the head of Chynna McGirt but was saved and then cleared off of the line before the Tars could capitalize. Rollins would continue to ramp up their play throughout the half, earning eight corners in the process. The Tars were unable to find the tying goal, and fell to the Tritons, 1-0.

  • The Tars still hold the advantage in the all-time series against the Tritons, 14-11-1
  • This is the third time this season the Tars have registered at least 20 shots in a game
  • Rollins is now 3-4 in games decided by one goal this season
