WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 7, 2018) – The Rollins women's soccer team picked up their first victory of the 2018 season in convincing fashion, downing Tusculum 3-0. Rollins improves to 1-0-2, and remain undefeated early in the year. Tusculum suffers their first defeat, as they fall to 1-1-1 on the campaign.
The Tars got goals from Sarah Buckley, Shalisa Crowell, and Kathryn O'Brien on the evening. They were assisted by Meghan Mosley, Buckley, and Megan Welliver respectively. Kelly Rowswell had another stellar game in net, making five saves and preserving her second clean sheet. Sonja Ballmert put two shots on target to lead the Pioneers, while Hannah Graham and Danielle Breen split time in goal for Tusculum, combining for three saves.
The Tars opened the scoring with 12 minutes to play in the first half. Meghan Mosley drove the ball into the box and Sarah Buckley was able to redirect it into the cage. The assist is the first collegiate point for Mosley, a freshman from Ormond Beach, Florida. The Tars would double their advantage five minutes before the break. This time it was Buckley who found a cutting Shalisa Crowell who place the ball beyond the keeper and into the net. Kathryn O'Brien put the game to rest in the 68th minute. The West Springfield, Massachusetts native ran under a long pass from Welliver and found herself alone with the keeper. O'Brien coolly slotted the ball home for her second tally of the season.
Rollins will return to the pitch on Sunday, September 9 at 11 a.m. The Tars will be playing host to the No. 5 Columbus State Cougars.
