Tars Overtime Magic Continues Against Lynn

WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 28, 2019) – Rollins picked up their second consecutive Sunshine State Conference overtime victory, defeating the Lynn Fighting Knights 2-1 under the lights at Barker Family Stadium.  Rollins improves to 5-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in SSC action.  Lynn drops to 3-4-1 overall and 0-2-1 in conference play. 

Rollins got goals from seniors Sarah Buckley and Kathryn O'BrienMolly Von Eschenbach picked up her second assist of the season on the game winner.

Ariella Kaplan tallied the lone score for Lynn.  Kaplan and Anniina Sankoheach took five shots to lead the Fighting Knights.  Saige Griffin tallied a assist on the score.

Elena Beasley was busy in cage for Rollins, making nine saves, including six in the second half, playing the full match.  Devan Malcolm made four saves for the Fighting Knights.

Both teams battled back and forth in the first half, before the Tars took the lead with just seconds to go in the frame.  The Tars drew a foul at the edge of the box, and Sarah Buckley stepped up to take the kick.  The Oviedo native blasted the ball around the Lynn wall and into the side netting.

Lynn would equalize in the first minute of the second half.  Griffin lofted the ball into the penalty area where a melee ensued.  Beasley made a save on the first Fighting Knight shot, but Kaplan got her tow on the ball again and directed it into the net.  Neither team could generate a clear cut chance for the rest of the half, as regulation ended with the score 1-1.

O'Brien ended the game halfway through the first overtime period.  The West Springfield, Massachusetts native took a pass from Von Eschenbach and turned around her defender.  The senior then ran into the Lynn penalty box and slotted the ball just inside the far pipe for the golden goal.


  • Kathryn O'Brien now sits tied for 10th all-time in Rollins history with 25 career goals.  She also jumped into sole possession of ninth all-time in career points with 62.
  • Sarah Buckley is now tied for 22nd in Rollins history with 11 goals.
  • The Tars currently sit second in the SSC behind only Nova Southeastern

The Tars remain at home where they will host Eckerd next Saturday, October 5.  Kickoff against the Tritons is set for 7 p.m. at Barker Family Stadium.
