CLEARWATER, Fla. (February 14, 2020) – Rollins smashed the school record in the 200-yard freestyle relay and Beatriz Olivieri set another program best as the Tars remained in third at midway point of the Sunshine State Conference Championship.
Rollins has 209.5 points for the event and leads fourth-place Lynn by 1.5. Florida Southern is fifth (181). Nova Southeastern leads the field with 489.5 points while Tampa (396.5) is second.
The 200-yard freestyle quartet of Hannah Brockman, Sam Shelly, Anna Van Zyverden and Maya Thompson powered its way to a runner-up finish, posting a school record time of 1:34.22. They were less than a second behind winner NSU and just missed an NCAA Provisional time by .01 seconds.
Olivieri also reached the podium on Friday night, taking third place in the 100-yard butterfly. Her time of 55.38 beat the Tars school record by .01 seconds, set by Audrey Kula in 2013. Cara Dealy was 11th in the race in 56.88 and Van Zyverden took 15th in 57.56.
Erika Wesch earned a 14th place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.25.
The SSC Championship continues through Sunday at the Long Center in Clearwater, Florida.
