CLEARWATER, Fla. (February 16, 2020) – Sydney Willis grabbed a spot on the podium Saturday as the Rollins women's swim team solidified third place after three days of the 2020 Sunshine State Conference Championship.
Rollins has 331.5 points for the meet and began to pull away from fourth place Lynn (297). Nova Southeastern leads the way with 726.5 points while Tampa is second at 659.5.
Willis finished third in the 500-yard freestyle in time of 4:57.18, lowering her NCAA B cut qualifying time. Jill Hughes finished ninth in 4:59.25 and Abby Frey 10th in 5:02.53, also NCAA B cut times.
Rollins scored big points in the 200-yard butterfly with three placers. Beatriz Olivieri finished fourth in 2:03.34 and Cara Dealy powered her way to a sixth place finish in 2:04.54. Erika Wesch finished 12th in 2:09.16.
Darrelle Pawley finished 13th in the 100-yard breaststroke, posting a time of 1:05.22.
Rollins 800-freestyle relay team of Hughes, Hannah Brockman, Wesch and Willis finished fourth in 7:39.30, less than a second off the school record.
The Tars will conclude the 2020 Sunshine State Conference Championships on Sunday, February 16 at the Long Center in Clearwater.
