CLEARWATER, Fla. (February 16, 2020) – After setting the tone on day 1, the Rollins women's swim completed its historic weekend by finishing third at the 2020 Sunshine State Conference Championship.
The Tars broke four more school records on Sunday and totaled eight program bests for the weekend. Rollins also had 14 women reach NCAA B cuts during the event.
Rollins racked up 438.5 points over the four-day event, its most since the inaugural, five-team SSC Championship in 2011. The Tars finished third in the first two conference meets and had been no better than fifth since then, including sixth place finishes the past two seasons.
Nova Southeastern took home the team title with 955 points while Tampa (930.5) was second. The Tars were 76 ahead of fourth place Lynn.
Maya Thompson led the Tars Sunday with another pair of school records. The junior was 10th in the 100-yard freestyle in a school record time of 51.74. Beatriz Olivieri finished 13th in 52.72 and Hannah Brockman 16th in 53.00.
Darrelle Pawley set a school record in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing 10th in a time of 2:21.12.
The Tars on the NCAA performance list will now wait for the NCAA Championship field to be announced Wednesday, February 26. The 2020 NCAA National Championship is slated for March 11-14 a the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
