Tars Upset Bid Falls Short

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 4, 2019) – Rollins pushed No. 3 Saint Leo, but could not upset the Lions, falling 6-1 on the Bert Martin Tennis Courts.  The No. 43 Tars fall to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in Sunshine State Conference action.  Saint Leo improves to 14-3, and 4-2 against SSC opponents.

The Lions took two of the doubles matches from the Tars, sealing the doubles point for the visitors.  The Lions picked up the first two team wins.  Seniors Savanna Fuller and Carlye Goldman then captured the third position doubles match 6-4.

The Lions took the first singles match, extending their lead to 2-0.  Teresa Kaiser registered Rollins lone point of the day with a straight set win on the fourth court.  The senior picked up a 6-2, 6-4 victory.  The Lions won the next match to put themselves on the brink of the overall win.  The contests on the sixth, first, and third courts all went to third sets, but Rollins could not breakthrough to cut into the Saint Leo lead.

The No. 47 Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish visit Winter Park tomorrow, Friday, April 4.  First serve is set for 3 p.m.
