WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 16, 2020) - The #2 team in the country, Lynn University, proved to be too much for Rollins to handle in the Sunday morning matchup between the two teams.
Lynn swept all three doubles matches, and followed that up by taking the six singles games as well. Alexandra Borg and Ola Durzynski fought hard against #6 Ulyana Grib and Valeriya Pogrebnyak in doubles flight one before falling a by a 7-5 final score. The other two doubles matches ended in 6-0 wins for the Knights to give them the point.
The Fighting Knights, who were national champion runners-up last year, feature two nationally ranked and four regionally ranked singled players. Ulyana Grib, who is rnaked 16th in the country took out Borg in flight one. Flight two saw Eleanora Liga, ranked #19 in the South region, took home a flight two win over Durzynski. Kaitlynn Groves fell to #44 Federica Mordegan by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Georgina Groth had the closest match of the day in her 6-3, 6-3 loss against Giorgia Pigato in the fourth draw. Marie Debruyn and Polina Vlasova could not advance in the fifth and sixth flights, respectively as the Tars fell by a final of 7-0.
Rollins has a pair of home matches in the upcoming week. They will host the D-1 Stetson Hatters on Tuesday, February 18 at 4:00 pm, and then take on the Bates Bobcats on Thursday, February 20 at 4 pm as well.
