Rollins went 2-1 in the GSC/SSC South Region crossover last week, dropping a five-set heart breaker to Christian Brothers before winning against Shorter and West Alabama. The Tars will look to carry that momentum into two conference road games this week, at Tampa and at Saint Leo.
Rollins (6-13, 1-7 SSC): Rollins snapped their eight-game losing skid with a more aggressive approach last week. They tallied double digit kills in 11 of their 13 sets, including a season-high 18 against West Alabama. Freshman Riley Spurlin is leading the way on that front as she is now up to 174 on the year (2.60 per set). Alexis Yeager is still near the top of the leaderboard in blocks per set, with a mark of 1.15 which is third best in the SSC. Rachel Reeve is seventh in the conference in assists per set (7.75), but during the West Alabama game, Rebecca Kuehn became the first Tar not named Rachel to lead the team in assists when she posted 29 in the Rollins victory.
Tampa (15-6, 8-2 SSC): The reigning national champions started off slowly, but have hit their stride in the conference, as they sit in first place after winning their last ten games in a row. The Spartans rank near the top of most offensive categories in the SSC, including assists (12.49/set, 2nd), hitting percentage (.246/set, 3rd), and kills (13.24/set, 4th). Their biggest weakness is on defense, as they rank 10th in conference in blocks per set at 1.60. Katie McKiel is currently tops in the SSC in kills (303) and kills per set (3.88), and is one of four Spartans with more than 115 kills on the year. Sammy Mueller is the leader in assists for Tampa with 662, while Nicole Dominguez is the top digger.
Saint Leo (15-6, 6-4 SSC): The Lions are in the middle of the pack in the SSC, and are coming off a loss to Tampa on Tuesday evening. Saint Leo has the most kills (1072) and the best hitting percentage in the conference, converting .258 of their attempts. Anilise Fitzi is their top attacker with 206 kills at a .351 percentage, which is the fourth-highest mark in the SSC. The Lions pride themselves on their deep roster, with six players who have more than 100 kills on the year. They are also stout defensively, ranking 4th in blocks, 4th in service aces, and 5th in digs.
"We were pleased with our team's resilience last weekend. Despite ongoing challenges with injuries and players having to play out of position, they really battled in all three matches but particularly in the last match against University of West Alabama. We are getting contributions from everyone on the team, and it is fun to watch them growing every day. We are looking forward to two great SSC matches this week as we continue to work on getting better in the serve and pass game."
- Head coach Mika Robinson is in her fourth season at the helm for the Tars, and 12th overall as a head coach. Her career record sits at 200-164.
- This will be the 86th matchup between Rollins and Tampa.
- This will be the 76th matchup between Rollins and Saint Leo. The Tars lead the all-time series 50-25.
