Set Up

Rollins played well last week, going 2-1 at home against Sunshine State competition. They defeated Florida Tech in three sets, fell to the Lynn Fighting Knights in four sets, and scored an impressive five-set win against Nova Southeastern on Saturday. Riley Spurlin was named the SSC Offensive Player of the Week after totaling 47 kills in the three matches. She wasn't the only one to earn recognition though … Alexis Yeager took home her second Defensive Player of the Week award after tallying 19 total blocks in the three games.

Rollins faces another three-game week, this time all on the road. They will square off against Embry-Riddle on Tuesday, Florida Southern on Thursday, and Eckerd on Saturday.

Team Previews

Rollins (8-16, 3-10 SSC): The Tars are in ninth place in the conference, but have found recent success with four wins in their last seven games. Spurlin has recorded at least twelve kills in eight of her last nine matches, and ranks 11th in the conference in the category. Erin Burke has also been a key piece, averaging 12 kills per game in her last three. The team set a season high on Saturday with four solos and 28 block assists.

Embry-Riddle (17-3, 10-3 SSC): The Eagles are perched near the top of the conference standings, having won seven of their last eight. They took the first game against Rollins in four sets back in the beginning of October, but will face a Tars squad that has a different rotation that has worked well. ERAU has three players who have eclipsed the 200 kill mark on the year … Jordan Schumacher (256), Kristin von Schemm (217), and Melanie Canfield (216). The Eagles attack at a .211 clip, while only allowing a .182 mark to their opponents. Jenna Bishop leads the team on defense with 80 blocks on the year.

Florida Southern (6-18, 2-12 SSC): The Mocs have dropped five of their last six games, but one of their two conference wins this season came at Warden Arena against Rollins on October 5th. Rachael Martin recorded a dozen kills in the first contest, and is the team leader on the season at 179. Annie Collins and Mika Garza have split time at the setter position, with each girl over the 350 assist mark on the year.

Eckerd (17-8, 8-6): The Tritons are the fourth place team in the conference, and are winners in four of their last six. Eckerd is in the top five in the conference in almost every category, both defensively and offensively. In this season's previous encounter, Eckerd took the match, 3-1. Asya Harris is the top attacker on the team, with 300 kills to her name. The Tritons also have six players with at least 20 service aces on the year.

Robinson's Ramblings

"We were really pleased to see the team's hard work finally start to pay off this past week in the win column. In particular, our fifth set against Nova was really good volleyball, and I am proud of this young group for finishing so well. We knew that this freshmen class was going to make an immediate impact, so it is fun to see them growing by leaps and bounds every week and turning in the numbers that they are turning in against such quality opponents. The future of Tars volleyball is very bright. Having raised a total of $736, between the jersey auction and online donations, for the Sideout Foundation in the fight against breast cancer, we are thankful to everyone who contributed and happy to use our platform to help this important cause."

  • Head coach Mika Robinson is in her fourth season at the helm for the Tars, and 12th overall as a head coach. Her career record sits at 202-167.
  • This will be the 19th matchup between Rollins and Embry-Riddle.
  • This will be the 85th matchup between Rollins and Florida Southern.
  • This will be the 85th matchup between Rollins and Eckerd. The Tars lead the all-time series 56-28.
