WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 14, 2019) - The Barry Buccaneers defeated the Rollins Tars in three sets on Thurday night, winning 25-21, 25-18, 25-23. It was the second time this season that Barry claimed victory over Rollins.
Both teams played well in the first half, attacking above .300. Barry converted 11 kills with two errors on 23 attempts (.391) while the Tars went for 14 kills and five errors on 28 attempts (.321). A big factor in the first set was when teams held service. The Buccaneers were able to land five service aces while the Tars only managed one. Megi Buvinic had four kills for Barry, as did Riley Spurlin and Harper Smith for Rollins.
The second set was tough for the Tars as they only converted on .114 of their attacks, and had a sideout percentage of 41%. Though a late run made the score respectable, Barry had the inside position on this one from the start. The Bucs landed 16 kills as opposed to eight from Rollins. Spurlin was once again the top attacker for Rollins, with three more kills.
Set three was a different story. Rollins came out hot, holding a lead throughout most of the set. At one point, they took a 21-16 lead. After a timeout, Barry was able to refocus and went on a game-ending stretch by scoring nine of the next eleven points. The set featured four ties and three lead changes. Buvinic capped her night off with five more kills to bring her total to 12 on the night. Most impressively, she did not have a single attack error in the match. Spurlin ended up as the high scorer for Rollins with ten total kills.
Next up for the Tars is a home matchup against Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday, November 16. First serve is slated for 4:00 pm. Fans who cannot attend can watch the action live and also follow along with live stats.
