WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 16, 2019) - Rollins took a tough loss on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish in five sets.
Rollins came out of the gates hot in the first set, taking it by a score of 25-19. The Tars stat line was great, posting 11 kills at a .241 percentage to go along with six team blocks. Abby Harbinson looked sharp, tallying three kills and three block assists to pace Rollins. Riley Spurlin also added three kills, and two blocks of her own. As a team, Rollins forec PBA into seven attack errors and a .125 attack percentage. Rollins also turned in a 70% sideout percentage (14-20).
The second set was even more impressive as Rollins dominated en route to a 25-15 win. The team matched their eleven kills from the first set, but increased their attack percentage to .276. They once again won the sideout battle, claiming a 73% effort (11-15) there. Harbinson continued to play well, adding four more kills and two more blocks to her ledger. Harper Smith chipped in two kills, a service ace and three block assists during the Tars run.
Set three saw the momentum shift in the favor of the Sailfish. Palm Beach Atlantic posted 13 kills at a .417 clip, and only allowed four Tars kills. They won the set easily, 25-11.
The fourth set was the most exciting of the day. It was a back and forth affair that featured seven ties and five lead changes. With PBA leading 20-16 the Tars went on a 4-0 run to tie things up thanks to a pair of Sailfish attack errors, and two monster kills from Spurlin. After PBA took a one-point lead, Spurlin once again led the Tars atack, posting back-to-back kills to give Rollins the 22-21 advantage. A timeout alowed Palm Beach Atlantic to refocus, and they scored the next three points to make it 24-22. A Harper Smith kill brought the Tars within a point, but PBa finished things off with a kill from Carolina Swan to take the set 25-23.
The final set was all Sailfish. They jumped out to a 3-0 lead early on, and followed that with a five-point run to make the score 10-2. After another kill from Spurlin made it 10-3, the Sailfish closed things out with a couple of Rollins errors and two more kills form Swan to win the set 15-5.
Spurlin led the Tars with 18 kills, and also chipped in two blocks and five digs. Harper Smith had a nice all-around game with seven kills, two service aces, six block assists and seven digs. Charlie Durbin also had an impressive game with 16 digs and a handful of athletic plays.
The final two matches of the season are on deck for this upcoming week. Rollins will host Saint Leo on Thursday, November 21 at 7 pm, and will conclude their season on Saturday, November 23 at 4 pm against the Tampa Spartans.
