Rollins volleyball head coach Mika Robinson has announced the hiring of Sarah Steffan as Assistant Coach prior to the 2018-19 school year.
Steffan played for Robinson at Berry College, serving as captain on both 2012 and 2013 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Conference Championship teams.
"We could not be more excited to have Sarah join our volleyball staff. As a student-athlete, she was a tremendous leader who helped lead her team to back to back championships, and as a young professional, she has continued to pursue excellence all while serving others," said Robinson. "Having studied abroad as a student, consistently having been involved in a variety of service initiatives and having benefited from a liberal arts education herself, Sarah will serve as a terrific role model for our athletes as we strive to educate global citizens and responsible leaders. I am confident that Sarah's character, poise and championship experience will help us to continue to build our program into a consistent national contender."
As a senior, Steffan was awarded the Berry College "Be Berry" award which is presented to an excellent person, student and athlete. This student must set an example of leadership, dedication, values and concern for others while effectively representing Berry College in the competitive arena. She was also just recently listed as a Billy Penn Who's Next: Public Service honoree for her work with City Year the last two years.
"I am so excited to join the Tar family and continue to build upon the foundation Coach Robinson has laid," added Steffan. "It is truly an amazing opportunity to get to learn from her and this strong program she is building. I am looking forward to getting down to Rollins and jumping right in!"
Prior to coming to Rollins, Steffan served as the Team Leader of the Senior AmeriCorps Civic Engagement Project. Along with her Billy Penn Who's Next Public Service honor, Steffan has also been the recipient of the City Year Philadelphia's Greatness Award (2018), the Be Berry award (2014), the Viking Award (2014), the Berry College Volleyball Leadership Award (2013), the Troy/Gardner Award for Promising Work in Art History (2013), and earned the Louise duPot Crowninshield Community House Scholarship in 2012.
A native of Boca Grande, Florida and Ponte Vedra High School graduate, Steffan was a four-year letter winner at outside hitter for Berry. She ranks 10th in school history in both kills (701) and points (805.5). Steffan was twice named to the SAA Sportsmanship Team and SAA Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll. The two-year captain helped lead her team to consecutive SAA conference championships. Along with her time on the court, Steffan was involved with SAAC, as well as Athletes Bettering the Community.
